Our Story
Maggie and Kimberly's relationship spans over two decades. It began when the two were focused on building their respective reputations in the political arena. They found that although they were working with different organizations, their causes were aligned and the goals were similar. As a result, both grew to have a great deal of mutual respect for one another, both professionally and personally.
It was after the 2016 election cycle that Kimberly and Maggie reflected on their personal and professional goals and realized how much their shared experiences, similar aspirations, and professional strengths complemented each other. It was during their early morning adventures as “mall walkers” that the spark of starting a company was ignited.
The result was a great partnership and the formal creation of aptly-named Maven Strategies. Combined Maggie and Kimberly bring experience that spans across more than four decades at all levels of politics. Being one of the few women-owned firms in their field, they take pride in their unique perspective and their commitment to delivering results.
KIMBERLY REYNOLDS
Anyone who knows Kimberly, appreciates her quick wit, calm-under-pressure demeanor and impressive organization leadership skill. Her accomplishments speak for themselves.
Before launching Maven, she served as the Executive Director of North Carolina Democratic Party from 2015-2019, building one of the most successful state parties in the country. During that time Democrats took back the Governor’s mansion in 2016, elected progressive municipal leaders in 2017, cemented control of the Supreme Court, and broke both legislative supermajorities in 2018. Prior to that, Kimberly served in a variety of policy and political positions including: serving as the Chief of Staff in the Office of the Democratic House Leader and Chief of Staff in the Office of Lieutenant Governor Walter Dalton, as well as Director of the North Carolina Democratic Senate Caucus.
A native North Carolinian, Kimberly attended North Carolina State University earning a B.A. in Political Science with a minor in Business Administration. Kimberly serves as a member of the North Carolina Zoological Park Council. She loves adventure and loves traveling with her husband Phillip enjoy time with their two daughters, Claire and Grace.
MAGGIE BARLOW
Maggie’s reputation precedes her as one of the best with regards to accuracy and attention to detail. She is well-known in the industry for her high standards around data management, reporting accuracy, and systematic organization.
Maggie has served in all aspects of political consulting from campaign strategy to finance and compliance to director of party organizations. Prior to co-founding Maven Strategies, she independently owned Ad Astra Consulting where she focused on financial and administrative support for political campaigns and non-profit organizations. Notably, Maggie served as Director of the North Carolina House Democratic Caucus where she helped lead the effort to regain the Democratic House majority in 2004 and expand that majority to 68-52 in 2006. She also served as the Finance Director for the Democratic Party of Virginia.
Maggie lives in Raleigh, N.C. with her husband Todd and their three sons, Thomas, Henry and Charles. In her spare time, she serves as Treasurer on the Women’s Forum of N.C. A Kansas native, she earned a B.S. in Political Science with a minor in Leadership Studies from Kansas State University.

Kathryn brings her expertise in fundraising, organizing in-person and virtual events, overseeing candidate call time, database management, and donor relations to the Maven team. She graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Meredith College. Kathryn interned at Maven Strategies before coming on as a Finance Associate in 2020.
Since 2021, Emily has helped Maven's clients execute strategic email campaigns and provides digital support for candidates and state parties. She previously worked on campaigns providing valuable digital and graphic design support. She graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelor of Science in Communication Studies with a minor in Political Science.

Jennifer is a creative professional with a special interest in strategic design and business start-ups. Working with a wide range of clients, from law firms and CPAs to real estate developers and independent business owners, she has experience developing effective corporate communications and visual identities from initial concept to final product
